Quiet Comeback
Take Action
“Begin at once to live, and count each separate day as a separate life.”
(Seneca, Letters to Lucilius)
Whether it lasts days, weeks, months, or even years, being stuck in a rut is a difficult, even crippling experience. For many, the longer you are in a rut, the harder it seems to move beyond it. The outlook seems to grow dimmer and dimmer with no way of life other than limitation, discontentment, and feeling stuck.
Similar to finding a way forward through anxiety, the best way to get out of a rut is by taking action. Action does not equate to an immediate fix for all problems, but it is only through action that one makes progress or solves problems. Inaction is a process of rumination and avoidance, while action–even if taken in small, progressive steps–is exposure, habituation, and increased agency. As the Stoics taught us, the only way forward is through.
What is one action you will take today to move forward?
